Trading Cards

Trading cards – the hobby with a thrill sealed in foil

Trading cards are two hobbies in one: a game with depth, and a collecting passion with a hunting instinct. Some build decks, study strategies, and meet up for tournaments; others complete sets, sort by rarity, and know exactly how to appreciate the difference between a played card and a mint one. Most people eventually do both – the hobby has a well-documented pull. At Elbenwald you'll find trading cards from the major trading-card worlds: boosters, displays, starters, and themed products, plus the matching brand worlds for everything beyond the cards themselves. Officially licensed and sealed in original packaging – the tearing sound is on you. Whether you end up playing, collecting, or both: the cards tend to decide that for you.

What matters when buying trading cards?

Goal and format. The goal first: players buy differently than collectors. Deck builders reach for starter products and targeted expansions of the format their group plays; collectors think in sets and displays. The format next: single boosters deliver the small surprise moment, displays the reliable base for set collectors, starters the ready-to-play full package – contents and language of each product are on the product page, and with language versions in particular, it's worth checking closely. And then there's care, the hobby's signature trait: sleeves, binders, and stable storage aren't overcaution but standard practice – a card's condition is half its value, whether that value is measured in tournament points or sentiment. Taking care of both brings double the enjoyment – and double the shelf space needed.

Frequently asked questions

Booster, display, or starter – where do I start?

As a newcomer, with a starter product: it includes ready-to-play decks and the rules, so you learn the game before investing in collecting. Boosters are the follow-up, displays are the choice for ambitious collectors. Contents are listed on the respective product page.

How do I protect my cards properly?

Played cards belong in sleeves, valuable single cards additionally in toploaders or binders – store them dry, out of light, and never bundled with a rubber band, the archenemy of every collection. Following this from day one saves you the heartbreak of a bent corner on your best card later.
